MS Support Group presented by Mercy Health
With the goal of offering those living with Multiple Sclerosis and their families, caregivers and partners, a place to share experiences and learn from others, Mercy Health is proud to host a monthly MS Support Group. The group is led by Mercy Health neurologist Dr. Anna Bite, the region's only fellowship-trained physician in Multiple Sclerosis. The September topic is "Laughter Yoga and Coping Techniques" presented by Katy MAAG, RN - Certified Laughter Yoga Instructor. The group meets the first Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. At Way Public Library in the Mercy Health Family Activity Center. "A MS diagnosis is life changing, but it isn't a journey that must be traveled alone. This support group offers a place to learn, and we hope it will serve as another form of healing," Dr. Bite said. "The group is a place where participants are welcome to share their unique stories in a supportive and uplifting environment." Multiple sclerosis, also known as MS, is a neurological condition that affects the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord). Multiple sclerosis occurs when the body's immune system attacks and damages myelin. Myelin is a protective sheath that surrounds the body's nerve fibers. As the disease progresses, the nerves may also deteriorate. There are approximately 400,000 cases of MS in the United States.
