The 442nd Regimental Combat Team in World War II

The 442nd Regimental Combat Team was one of two army units made up of second-generation Japanese Americans. These men fought for the United States in World War II while their families were interned in camps back in America. This unit is renowned as the most decorated for its size and length of service in American military history. The unit's motto was "Go For Broke" and they proved their loyalty to the United States through their service. All while the attitudes towards Japanese Americans at this time were ones of prejudice, doubt, and suspicion. The 442nd Regimental Combat Team earned over 18,000 awards that included, 9,486 Purple Hearts, 21 Medals of Honor, and 8 Presidential Unit Citations.
