Bird Banding

Join Sean Williams, Ph.D., assistant professor of biology at the Eastern Campus, to learn what bird banding is and why it's done and help release the wild birds. Bird banding is the placement of numbered, aluminum bands on their legs. The bands serve as the bird's ID, helping researchers collect data to study migratory movements, population health, behavior, and lifespan. The station is operated under a federal permit by the USGS. Dates and Times: Every Tuesday from Aug. 25 - Oct. 27 Open House 7 - 10 a.m. (except when winds are greater than 13 mph and/or rain)* *Schedule changes will be communicated via email. Registration is only required to receive notifications about schedule changes due to weather.
