Marne Titchenell, Extension Wildlife Program Director with The Ohio State University, discusses the role of beavers in Ohio's ecology. Once nearly wiped out in Ohio due to over-trapping in the 1800s, beavers are now reclaiming their role as essential architects of the state's ecosystem. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources estimates there are around 30,000 beavers living in Ohio today. Titchenell serves as Wildlife Program Director with Ohio State University Extension. She works to provide a variety of educational programs, workshops, conferences, and publications centered on wildlife ecology and biology, habitat management for wildlife, and managing nuisance wildlife species. Her areas of expertise include, bat ecology, wildlife habitat management, wildlife damage management, forest wildlife ecology, and the ecology and conservation of reptiles, amphibians, and non-game species.
