Wednesday Movie Club: Seven Psychopaths
Don't let the title fool you. While the rest of this month's lineup celebrates the art of psychological crime thrillers, Seven Psychopaths lovingly turns many of the genre's most familiar conventions inside out. The result is one of the funniest, smartest, and most original dark comedies of the past twenty years. From Academy Award-winning writer-director Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), it's unlike just about anything else you'll ever see. Featuring an all-star cast including Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken, Woody Harrelson, Tom Waits, and a dog named Bonnie, the film follows a struggling screenwriter who finds himself swept into Los Angeles' criminal underworld after his eccentric best friend accidentally steals the beloved dog of a ruthless gangster. What follows is a wildly entertaining collision of hitmen, kidnappers, aspiring writers, and increasingly bizarre twists, all while cleverly sending up the conventions of crime thrillers and Hollywood violence. Equal parts hilarious, heartfelt, and surprisingly thoughtful, Seven Psychopaths proves that even the darkest genres can have a wicked sense of humor. This film is being presented as part of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library's Wednesday Movie Club, a weekly showcase of movies that matter for people who love movies. Attendees will be invited to discuss the film immediately following the screening. Registration is not required. Rating: R Runtime: 1h 50m Producti
