Camino de Santiago

Join David, a modern-day pilgrim, for an engaging presentation on the Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of Saint James. David will explain why the Camino became one of the most important pilgrimages of the Middle Ages and explore the reasons behind its renewed popularity today. Over the past several years, David has walked more than 8,000 kilometers across Spain, Portugal, and France. He has also served as a hospitalero in Salamanca, Zamora, Ribadiso, and Ponferrada, Spain, welcoming and supporting pilgrims along the route. During the presentation, David will share Spanish history, stories from the Camino, and personal insights gained while traveling at three miles an hour. The program is open to people of all ages, including those who prefer to sit and listen, those who enjoy walking, and those considering a Camino journey of their own. David will conclude by sharing maps, books, and backpacking gear used for walking the Camino de Santiago. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have also walked England's Coast to Coast Trail and hiked in Nepal, Japan, and Peru. Twelve years ago, David founded the Southeast Michigan chapter of American Pilgrims on the Camino. The organization's mission is to foster the enduring tradition of the Camino by supporting its infrastructure, gathering pilgrims together, and providing information and encouragement to past and future pilgrims.
