Food in the Ancient Mediterranean World at the Cleveland Museum of Art
Join Dr. Mark D. Hammond as he leads you through the ancient galleries of the Cleveland Museum of Art and introduces you to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, through one of the most relatable of human concerns - FOOD. Although our need for food is universal, the way that a culture approaches food and its foodways can be highly unique and can speak volumes about their values. The Egyptian need to feed their dead, the Greek consumption of wine at the symposium, or the Roman mechanisms used to feed an empire all distinguish their civilizations, but points of contact and similar traditions also existed that help us view these cultures as existing within a shared world. --- Event Details:
