Slowing Down & Embracing Inefficiency: Research as CraftNimisha Bhat, Research & Instruction Librarian - Anthropology, Area Studies, History, English, WGSS Against the backdrop of Big Tech, AI, and capitalism driving higher education's focus on profit and return on investment, this talk will advocate for embracing slowness for a return to a traditional practice of deep, critical thinking and human-led information seeking in academia. The speaker will use the educational framework of craft pedagogy to demonstrate that the act of research is a skill and can be honed in the same way that arts & crafts - a traditionally feminine practice - are taught and learned. Bio: Nimisha (she/her) is a research and instruction librarian for Anthropology, Area Studies, History, and WGSS. She's passionate about cultivating curiosity within her students and connecting them to information. When not working, she is chasing around twin toddlers, listening to audiobooks, and knitting.
