Digging Into Canfield's Past: Metal Detecting and Finds in Canfield
The Canfield Historical Society invites the community to an intriguing evening exploring Canfield's past through the hobby of metal detecting. On Thursday, November 12, at 6:00 p.m., Joe Murray will present "Metal Detecting and Finds in Canfield" at the Canfield Library, 43 W. Main St., Canfield. Metal detecting can offer a unique way to connect with local history. Objects lost, discarded or buried over the years can provide clues about the people who lived, worked and traveled through an area. From everyday household objects and personal items to coins and other artifacts, these discoveries can help bring the past to life. During his presentation, Murray will share his experiences with metal detecting and discoveries made in and around Canfield, offering an opportunity to see local history from a different perspective. For historians and history enthusiasts, even an ordinary object can raise fascinating questions: Who owned it? How did it get there? What was happening in Canfield when it was lost? Examining these small pieces of the past can add another dimension to our understanding of the community. The program is presented by the Canfield Historical Society and is FREE and open to the public.
