The World's Diminishing Sand
Join the UC Clermont Sustainability Committee for a discussion on sand sustainability. Sand is one of the 21st Century's most valuable resources, yet the world is using it up at an alarming rate. Extracting sand from riverbeds, floodplains, ocean floors and beaches is a multi-billion-dollar industry. In the process, ecosystems are disrupted and countless fish, birds, mammals, corals, trees and plant life are killed. Depleting the planet's sand, legally or illegally, further threatens human life. Learn what can be done from global to local grassroot levels to save the world's diminishing sand. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 12:30-2 p.m. Snyder S-143, UC Clermont or virtual option Free lunch provided; bring your own water bottle (BYOWB) Students who attend may receive credit toward UC's Certificate of Achievement in Environmental Literacy.
