CWRU ASCE 100 Year Anniversary Celebration: Marsha Anderson Bomar
Marsha Anderson Bomar is the current Global President of ASCE. She will be giving a talk titled Infrastructure Assessments to Avoid Bumps in the Road: Research, Reporting and Advocacy as part of the celebration of 100 Years of our ASCE Student Chapter. Abstract: America's infrastructure is the foundation on which our national economy, global competitiveness, and quality of life depend. While infrastructure is often out of sight, out of mind, when there are deficiencies, we all feel the impact. It is more than roads and bridges. It's also the airports we use for travel, the schools our children attend, the parks we enjoy, the water we drink, the public transit we ride, the power that keeps the lights on, and so much more that impacts our daily lives. As the nation's oldest engineering society, representing 160,000 civil engineers who serve as stewards of infrastructure here in the U.S. And around the globe, ASCE serves as a leading advocate for infrastructure. Using an 'A' to 'F' school report card format, the Report Card provides a thorough assessment of current infrastructure conditions and needs, evaluating 18 categories based on eight key criteria. This lecture will introduce the concepts embodied in the methodology and results shown in the report card. It will provide examples of infrastructure challenges and the role of the report card in advocating on behalf of investment.
