Hocking River Sweep

Join the 2026 Hocking River Sweep! The Hocking River is one of Athens' greatest natural assets, supporting wildlife, recreation, and the quality of life that makes our community special. Join neighbors, students, and community partners for a morning of service to help protect this important local resource by removing litter from the river and its banks. Volunteers will work in small groups to clean designated sections of the Hocking River within the Athens city limits. Whether you're a longtime volunteer or looking for a simple way to give back, this is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors, meet others who care about our community, and make a visible impact in just a few hours. After the morning clean-up, participants are invited to join us in a free picnic-style lunch! Every bag of trash collected helps create a cleaner, healthier river for people and wildlife alike.
