Ohio's Aviators and Astronauts
Pioneers in both early flight and outer space hailed from Ohio. The trip from a Dayton bicycle shop to Kitty Hawk sealed forever the legacy of the Wright Brothers. Ohioan Eddie Rickenbacker won the Medal of Honor for his service as an early fighter pilot in World War I and later headed Eastern Airlines. And among all the astronauts of the Space Age, two of the best known are Ohioans: John Glenn, the first to orbit the earth and, of course Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon. Presented by James P. Delaney, longtime Cincinnati newspaper and broadcast journalist, and president of Delaney Communications, Inc.
