Deaf Perspectives in Healthcare: A Collaborative Experience

The healthcare workshop will focus on communication gaps experienced by Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in healthcare settings. It will bring together students from different health professions and healthcare personnel to explore how communication barriers affect patient care and how providers can adapt their approaches to meet patients needs. Through hands-on activities, patient scenarios, and a panel discussion, participants will practice adapting assessments, communicating effectively, and recognizing when interpreter services are needed. Scenarios will include mental health care, and discussions will highlight perspectives from different healthcare fields. The workshop aims to build awareness and give participants practical strategies for providing accessible, patient-centered care.
