We recently celebrated the 250th anniversary of America's founding this past July 4th. That original event occurred just over a year into the Revolutionary War against the British Empire. This book club selection tells the story of a little-known aspect of our country's struggle for independence, involving a small, secret group of civilians (non-soldiers) known at the time only as the "Culper Ring". Their efforts to gather and send vital messages and accurate information about British activities to General George Washington were overseen by Major Benjamin Tallmadge. Tallmadge was a Treasurer for the Ohio Company of Associates and a property owner in Washington County. Although he never lived here, more than 40 of his letters are preserved at the Marietta College Library's Special Collections. Sign up and read Washington's Secret Six, a fascinating story about Revolutionary War spies, plots, secret messages, and the amazing men and women patriots who risked their lives to make our country free. Then join us on Thursday, October 1, at 5 pm for hands-on activities and discussions about the book.
