Two-hundred and fifty years ago when the halls of the Second Continental Congress filled with the voices of our founding fathers, they most likely did not break out in song. But when the Wooster High School Performing Arts Center fills with the re-enactment of the birth of America's independence, some of our area's most talented actors and singers will be heard. Under the direction of Summer Stage Wooster's founder Todd Patterson, "1776 the Musical" will be the organization's salute to our country's semi quincentennial and entertainment gift to our community and surrounding area. Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International, this summer's musical performances are scheduled for July 11, 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. and matinees on July 12 and 19 at 2 p.m. "1776" is a musical based on the historic event when the Declaration of Independence was written, debated, and signed by our country's founders. The show begins with John Adams roundly scolding his fellow Congressmen for their lack of drive and enthusiasm in attaining independence for the colonies. "1776" is the breathtakingly suspenseful story of John Adams' commitment to the cause of independence and the resourcefulness, intrigue, and parliamentary maneuvers he and Benjamin Franklin employ in promoting it. There are great songs, moments of hilarity and high drama as the Congressmen put their lives, property, and sacred honor on the line by signing the treasonous document to break free from Great Britain
