Searching for the first stars with the James Webb Space Telescope Eli Visbal The universe's first stars were born from the gas left behind by the Big Bang, helping transform the cosmos from a dark, nearly featureless place into the universe we know today. But these ancient stars have never been definitively observed. Could the James Webb Space Telescope finally be giving us a glimpse of them? Join Dr. Eli Visbal to explore how the first stars formed, why they are so difficult to detect, and the surprising clues they left behind. Discover how these cosmic pioneers created the first heavy elements - materials that eventually became part of stars, planets, and even us. About the Speaker Dr. Eli Visbal is an Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Toledo. His research focuses on how the first stars and supermassive black holes formed in the early universe, using theoretical models and large-scale computer simulations. He earned his B.S. In Physics from Carnegie Mellon University and his Ph.D. In Physics from Harvard University. He is originally from Yellow Springs, Ohio.
