Swetland Seminar: From Feedback to Features: A Community-informed Codesign of Technology for Produce Prescription Programs
Join us for the monthly Swetland Seminar Series, a free learning opportunity open to the public, focused on environmental health. Learn more at case.edu/swetland/seminars. Produce Prescription (PRx) enables healthcare providers to prescribe free or low-cost fruits and vegetables to patients managing chronic conditions like pre-diabetes, diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. Patients "fill" these prescriptions at participating food pharmacies, farmer's markets, grocery stores, or through home delivery. These programs are a promising approach to addressing food insecurity and diet-related chronic disease by connecting patients with fresh fruits and vegetables. As these programs grow, technology has the potential to enhance their reach, efficiency, and impact. This webinar presents a community-informed codesign process that was undertaken to develop a technology tool for produce prescription programs. Using an iterative approach, our team engaged key stakeholders including parents with young children, healthcare providers, and PRx stakeholders to obtain feedback about new technology features for PRx. Working hand-in-hand with app developers, the feedback were translated into app features to support PRx implementation.
