This annual concert celebrates the memory and musical legacy of one of jazz's greatest vocalists, Jon Hendricks. This year's guest vocalist is Reggie Bowens. About Reggie Bowens Reginald "Reggie" Bowens' gifted art has wrought him an exceptional background over the years, alongside artists Bobby McFerrin, Smokey Robinson, Kenny Loggins, Kim Burrell, and the New York Voices, to name a few. He is an accomplished arranger in the a cappella and jazz communities. He performed, arranged and directed with Afro-Blue on NBC's "The Sing-Off," where the ensemble placed fourth, and his arrangements and performances have received recognition in DownBeat Magazine's Student Music Awards. Dr. Bowens is an assistant professor of music in jazz studies and voice coordinator at Howard University. A Howard alumnus, he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media from the Eastman School of Music. His career also includes teaching at Cleveland State University, Cuyahoga Community College and The Music Settlement, as well as founding A Cappella Camp to expand music education opportunities for young people.
