Native Leaders of the Ohio Valley
Jim Lee, a member of the Shawnee Tribe and the Cherokee Nation, has spent more than 40 years tracing his family to Silver Heels, brother of Shawnee chiefs Cornstalk and Nonhelema, and to the European settlers they fought for this land. In this Native American Heritage Month talk, Lee follows the Shawnee from their towns along the Ohio and Scioto rivers through the Battle of Point Pleasant, removal from Ohio, and the Shawnee Tribe's restored sovereignty in 2001. The talk is free and open to the public. High school classes are welcome and will stay afterward for an art activity with Third & Center and lunch. Educators, please register your classroom so we can appropriately plan for lunch.
