Public reception Friday, September 18, 6-8 p.m. Exhibit on display through September 27 Cath Smith is a British-born, Ohio-based multidisciplinary artist working primarily in ceramics and oil painting. Her practice is rooted in thoughtful making, strong form, and close attention to material, surface, and proportion. In both her wheel thrown vessels and her paintings, she values restraint, clarity, and quiet emotional presence. Alongside her studio practice, Smith is also an educator and mentor, known for guiding artists with patience and generosity while emphasizing careful observation and intentional decision-making "Small Quiet Things brings together pottery and paintings made across different periods, materials, and ways of working. Though the mediums may vary, each piece begins with the same intention: to make space for attention. I'm drawn to modest forms, restrained gestures, and surfaces that reward looking slowly. Clay and paint offer different kinds of resistance - one holds the memory of touch, the other of revision - but both allow for moments of pause. This collection is held together by temperament: in interest in stillness, utility, and the quiet presence of objects made by hand. These works are not meant to compete for attention. They sit, wait, and reveal themselves over time. Some are functional, some purely visual, but all are shaped by the belief that small things carry weight, and that subtlety is not absence.
