Join Kristen Gaylord, Herzfeld Curator of Photography and Media Arts at the Milwaukee Art Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Shelby M. Sinclair, assistant professor in the Department of African American and African Studies at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, for an engaging conversation about "Widline Cadet: Seremoni Disparisyon (Ritual [Dis]Appearance)," a featured exhibition in the FotoFocus 2026 Biennial . Through photography, video, installation and mixed media, "Cadet" explores Black diasporic life and the artist's family's immigration from Haiti, bringing themes of immigration, loss, aspiration and memory to the forefront through deeply personal, autobiographical imagery. This Biennial Opening Program event is free and open to the public with the Biennial Pass. The Biennial Pass offers free access to over 70 photography and lens-based exhibitions during the month of October with invitations to exclusive events, including entry into the Opening Program (Sept. 30-Oct. 3). The Opening Program establishes the core theme of the Biennial and features receptions, guided tours, talks, panel discussions and a keynote lecture. Many venues and their events are free and open to the public; however, for those with admission fees, the Pass waives entry to Biennial exhibitions. The Biennial Pass Program is made possible by the generous support of William & Kate Baumann and Robert & Rachel Eckman. Get your free Biennial Pass today.
