Fostering Civil Discourse Series: Instilling Civic Values and Civility in Every Classroom

Join the Clark County Public Library for a lecture series that celebrates and explores America's 250 years. This series is open to all but designed for professional development opportunities for social studies K-12 educators. Teachers can earn continuing education units (CEU) by attending the series. This is the first in a four-part series. In this 90-minute session, we will explore why civility and civic values matter in every classroom and subject area. You will also learn and practice a practical communication technique (LAPP) that helps teachers and students engage more productively across differences. The seminar includes hands-on practice with realistic classroom and professional scenarios. This session is designed to be practical, relevant, and immediately useful regardless of the academic subjects you teach. Today's presenter is Barry W. Pruett, Ph.D, J.D. With the Wright State University Civics Center. He is a former litigation attorney and trained mediator. Online registration is required for this session.
