This exhibit, visible whenever the 4th floor of Alden Library is open, highlights women's contributions to botanical research and teaching from the 17th to the 20th centuries, viewed through the lens of items in the Rare Book Collection. Often forgotten and overlooked, women have always been significant and active participants in the study of botany. The books in this exhibit provide examples of how women have pushed the bounds of knowledge, made groundbreaking discoveries, collected and preserved specimens, provided detailed and accurate descriptions and illustrations, furthered understanding of how plants can be used, and shared their findings with a wide range of audiences.
