Meet the Author: Lucy Long
In this program, Lucy Long discusses her recent book, Sweet, Tart, and Golden: Apples in the Midwestern Imagination and how it is about much more than apples. It tells the story of how apples were brought to the eastern Midwest and became a significant part of the agricultural economy and food culture, but it also explores how apple dishes, Johnny Appleseed, orchards, cider, applebutter, and modern innovations like sliced apples illustrate the richness and complexities of the region. Books will be available to purchase. (cash or check only) Brief author bio: Lucy M. Long, PhD, is originally from North Carolina but has lived in Bowling Green since the mid-1980s. She first started researching apples here because they reminded her of home - but were different! Retired from BGSU, she now runs the independent non-profit, Center for Food and Culture. This will be held in our 2nd Floor Programming Room and no reservations are required.
