As part of the celebrations for America 250, in September, Ohio Plays! The Wyoming Branch Library, in partnership with the City of Wyoming Recreation Department invites you to a celebration of play and recess in our schools. This family-friendly, interactive event invites community members, parents, and kids to learn and play together. You will hear from local author, Dr. Cathy Ramstetter, about why recess matters and the important role play has in schools from the late 1800s through today. Dr. Ramstetter will invite input from the kids (since they are the ones doing the recess) as she dives into the benefits of recess and what a quality recess needs for learning and connection. Then, YOU will get to play some old and new recess games, together with friends and family. Come ready to share some of your favorite recess games - adults included (some of the classic recess games will be new to the kids!) We hope you'll join us for a night of recreation, play, and recess! Dr. Ramstetter, Wyoming resident, is the co-author of the American Academy of Pediatrics Policy Statement on recess and the author of the book Why Recess Matters: The Importance of Structure Play and How to Fight for It . If you have questions about recess and play in schools and you'd like to send them along ahead of time, please email DrR@SuccessfulHealthyChildren.org .
