A Conversation with Attorney Fred D. Gray

Please attend a special conversation with celebrated civil rights attorney and Case Western Reserve alumnus Fred D. Gray at the CWRU School of Law on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 12:00 noon in Gund Hall Room 159. Attorney Fred Gray is an internationally renowned attorney best known for representing Rosa Parks after her refusal to give up her seat on a Montgomery, AL, bus, and representing Martin Luther King, Jr. And other leaders of the 1950s and 60s civil rights movement. In his advocacy for oppressed minorities, Mr. Gray won a number of lawsuits, including several before the United States Supreme Court. These decisions reshaped constitutional law and civil rights law. For his lifetime of efforts, he has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022, the highest civilian award of the United States. Mr. Gray, in this conversation, will reflect on his lifetime of advocacy, his insights about the present and future of civil rights law, and his wisdom concerning achieving social justice.
