Researching the History of Your Home August 29th. 11 am Champaign County Library EVER WONDER THE HISTORY OF YOUR HOME? When was it really built? What did it originally look like? Who built it? Who lived there? Join the Champaign County Preservation Alliance for: HOW TO RESEARCH YOUR HOME Saturday, August 29, 2026 11:00 a.m. To 12:30 P.M. Champaign County Public Library, Urbana $5 per person (checks of cash accepted at the door) Local historian and CCPA board member John Bry will show you how to start uncovering your property's history using resources available here in Champaign County, or online. We will talk about what historic maps, deeds, newspapers, census records, city directories, historic photographs, architectural clues, genealogical sources, and more. Bring a photo of your house. Participants are encouraged to bring a photograph of their home to help start the conversation about what clues the building itself may reveal. Your house doesn't have to be a grand mansion to have an interesting history. Farmhouses, cottages, bungalows, neighborhood homes, or commercial buildings. All proceeds benefit the Champaign County Preservation Alliance and its preservation work throughout Champaign County. Please note seating is limited for this event.
