NQPI Seminar 10/8/2026 - Chinonso Ugwumadu
The Nanoscale and Quantum Phenomena Institute (NQPI) Seminar Series is pleased to welcome Chinonso Ugwumadu, Director's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Theoretical (T) division at Los Alamos National Laboratory, as our featured speaker on Thursday, October 8 at 4:10 p.m. All seminars take place in Walter 145 and are also accessible virtually via Teams. Title: Simulator Collection for Atomic to Continuum Scales Abstract: Engineering-scale models often average away the atomic-scale defects, interfaces, and structural disorder that govern local heat and charge transport. This talk presents SCACS, an AI-enabled multiscale toolkit that connects atomistic simulations to continuum finite-element models. SCACS combines site-projected thermal and electronic conductivity methods with graph neural networks to generate spatially varying, direction-dependent conductivity fields for million-atom microstructures. Companion FEniCSx solvers use these fields to predict temperature, electric potential, heat flux, and current density under realistic boundary conditions. By preserving local heterogeneity and anisotropy, SCACS reveals hot spots and preferred transport pathways that conventional continuum models may miss, while substantially reducing computational cost. Potential applications include semiconductors, fusion systems, aerospace materials, and energy storage.
