Field Day: Route 9 Cooperative

Learn about the cultivation and processing of chestnuts and acorns! Curious about perennial agriculture? Interested in growing and processing nuts? Join this field day to see a chestnut orchard in person, tour a processing facility, and learn about how the individuals at Route 9 Cooperative are making value-added flours from chestnuts and acorns. Rural Action has partnered with Route 9 to trial the use of a coffee roaster to enhance the flavor of nut products for use in baked goods, beverages, and dairy products. Attendees can expect to learn about growing and gathering the nuts to roasting and processing the flour. We will be sampling nut products to gather consumer feedback as well!
