Historian and treasure hunter Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) has spent his life searching for a legendary treasure dating back to the creation of the United States. He joins an expedition led by fellow treasure hunter Ian Howe (Sean Bean). Gates finds a clue in the Arctic Circle linking the treasure to the Declaration of Independence. His so-called colleague Howe betrays him. Now Gates has to hurry to get to the document before it falls into Howe's hands.
