The Science of Physical Restraints in Youth in Psychiatric Residential Treatment

Dr. Wilson Brown will examine the evidence surrounding the use of physical restraints in psychiatric residential treatment settings for youth and discuss the implications for trauma-informed clinical practice. Drawing on his expertise in traumatic stress disorders and evidence-based trauma treatments, he will provide insights relevant to healthcare professionals caring for children and adolescents with complex behavioral and mental health needs. Dr. Wilson Brown is a licensed clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University whose clinical and research expertise focuses on traumatic stress disorders and evidence-based trauma treatment across the lifespan. His work examines how to improve access to and effectiveness of trauma-focused interventions in community settings, particularly for underserved and marginalized populations, including youth and adults with severe psychiatric disabilities.
