Conversation & Pizza Lunch with Artist Suzanne Coley
Ohio University students! You're invited to join artist, printmaker, and writer Suzanne Coley for a conversation about her research methods and creative activity, while you enjoy a free pizza lunch! Drop in when you can or stay the whole time. Please RSVP to ensure we order enough pizza! Suzanne Coley creates sculptural books from discontinued textiles, including vintage linens, wedding dresses, and historic fabrics that carry traces of uncredited labor and memory. Instead of decorating Shakespeare's words, she translates the Sonnets into cloth, stitch, and page sequence. The result is both a sculptural book and a textile archive, gathering what was set aside and insisting on its presence. Bring your appetite along with questions, insights, and experiences with creative scholarship, alternative research projects, creative scholarly careers, Shakespeare, and anything else related to literary analysis and interpretation, bookmaking, working with textiles, quilting, and other handcrafts, visual and physical representation, and more. Also join us for: Suzanne Coley's public talk and bookmaking workshop for students.
