Dennis East Memorial Lecture Presents AI on Trial: A Judge's Point of View of AI in the Legal System

The Wood County Law Library and Wood County District Public Library are collaborating to present a lecture in memory of former Wood County Law Library Resources Board member Dennis East. Judge Matthew L. Reger, Judge Mary "Molly" L. Mack, and Judge Joel M. Kuhlman will come together on a panel to discuss AI and its growing presence in the courts. There is an increased use of generative AI assistants, such as ChapGPT, by both legal professionals and pro se litigants in addition to electronic legal research databases creating AI tools. There are questions about its accuracy and if these tools should be used in a legal setting. The panel will discuss AI, the court's view on its use, and their experiences using it. The judges will provide their unique perspectives and share their insights about the use of AI.
