Discover Bath Barns is bringing back its popular speaker series with two programs in September. The final program in the series is 'CODE RED: The Barn is burning, and It's a R.A.C.E. To Extinguish the Sparks.' Date: Tuesday, September 29, 2026 Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Location: Crown Point Ecology Center Barn, 3220 Ira Road, Akron OH 44333 The event is free and open to the public, and reservations are required. It was a beautiful fall evening in 2017 when tragedy struck - the White Family's pole barn burned down, and several of their animals lost their lives. An outbuilding fire means the loss of storage, equipment, and possibly animals, as well as having a dramatic impact on the rural residential character of the community. In this panel discussion: • Bath Township's Interim Fire Chief, John Rodriguez, will discuss common fire hazards in barns and outbuildings, preventive measures, emergency response plans, and personal safety. • Local veterinarian, Dr. Sandra Gebhart, will talk about how barn owners can protect their barns from fire, best practices for evacuating large and small animals from burning structures, and evaluating the animal's health once they are safe. • Barn owners, Brian and Torina White, will talk about the devastating loss of their barn to a fire, the emotional toll it took on them and their family, and the steps they took to safeguard from future fires when rebuilding their barn.
