Artists often used their practice to explore and react to occurrences in society. The 23 KMA artworks selected for this exhibition address a common theme of activism. Some, such as Käthe Kollwitz's Outbreak, depict events that occurred over a hundred years ago, while others reference more contemporary issues, including Civil Rights and Vietnam War protests, the Rodney King trial, and racial and gender inequity.
